The Cadets Academy difference

SSB GTO Ground coaching, on an in-house practice ground inside Mukherjee Nagar.

Group Testing Officer tasks are physical, social and fast-moving all at once. Cadets Academy trains candidates on its own in-house GTO practice ground, so obstacle practice does not depend on travelling to a distant facility.

01

Why an in-house ground changes preparation

Most GTO preparation elsewhere is theoretical: candidates discuss tasks in a classroom and see the physical obstacles for the first time only at the actual SSB. Because Cadets Academy runs its own practice ground within Mukherjee Nagar, candidates can rehearse the physical movement, group coordination and time pressure of GTO tasks repeatedly, in the weeks before their board, rather than encountering that pressure for the first time on selection day.

02

Progressive Group Task and Group Obstacle Race

These tasks test how a group moves a load past a series of structures using limited material, under a clock, while an assessor watches individual contribution. Ground sessions focus on practical planning, using the whole group’s ideas rather than one person dominating, and staying useful even when a candidate’s own idea is not the one the group finally uses.

03

Half Group Task, Command Task and Individual Obstacles

Command Task asks a candidate to lead two chosen group members through an obstacle using their own plan — a direct test of practical leadership under time pressure. Individual obstacles reward controlled effort and honest attempts rather than reckless risk. Ground practice builds familiarity with obstacle types and realistic pacing, so nerves on the day are about performance, not unfamiliarity.

04

Group Planning Exercise and Lecturette

Not every GTO component is physical. The Group Planning Exercise (Military Planning Exercise) is a map-based group problem solved through discussion, and the Lecturette is a short solo talk on a chosen topic. Both are practised alongside the outdoor tasks so a candidate’s ground performance and classroom performance reinforce, rather than contradict, the same Officer Like Qualities.
